Have you ever gone to a restaurant alone, and met by the host with “just one?” I’m thinking I’m “that one”, “the one and only” and “you are not my server, too?” When it comes to eating alone, there are variables as to why this is the case. This can be awkward for some people. The amplification worsens it for them. After asking how many and being told “one”…simply saying ‘please follow me’ makes a major difference! Recently, I spent waaayyyy more at the grocery store than I would have liked (what else is new these days), the cashier stated it’s just (insert amount). I immediately remarked that she said that as if she were paying. She apologized. We should not assume anything about someone who opts to enter the doors of an establishment…whether it be their dining situation or their coins!
